Sudarsan Pattnaik’s 100 sand Ratha set a new World record in Limca book of records

limsandPuri: Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik set another World record in Limca book of Records by carving 100 sand chariots at the Puri beach in Odisha. Pattnaik said he is very happy after getting the official confirmation from the Limca book of records that his 100 sand chariots will placed in the book as World Record.

Today the senior editor of Limca book of records Arthy Muthanna Singh congratulate and confirm that Sudarsan’s 100 sand chariots will placed in the limca book as a World record. Sudarsan has already 20 records in Limca book of World record. He has been making sand art related to Rath Yatra every year. This will be a big draw for tourists.

Pattnaik used about 800 bags of sand within 2500 sqft area to create 100 chariots in sand. He took about 20 hours in three days to complete this. 25 student from his institute assist him in this work. After getting an official permission and instructions from the editor of Limca book of records, they started carving from 2nd July and complete this on 4th July.

Sand sculpture is believed to have originated during the Rath Yatra in the 16th century by Balaram Das, a staunch devotee of Jagannath and16th century poet, was once humiliated by the servitors and not allowed to pull the chariots during Rath. He then went to the beach and sculpted chariots on the sand. It is said his chariots moved on sands whereas the real ones on the Grand Road in Puri got stalled. The king, Prataprudra, came down to Das to apologize to him and pull the chariots.

So far Padma Sri awarded Sudarsan has participated in more than fifty International sand art championships and festivals around the globe and won many prizes for our country. His sand arts are always based on Social issues and current topics.
