JEE Main and NEET to be Conducted Again in December 2018?

With medical and engineering aspirants all set to participate in the counselling procedures of the current year’s entrances alongside starting preparation for JEE Main 2019 and various other exams, the news of JEE Main and NEET to be conducted again in December 2018 is doing rounds already. And, the National Testing Agency will be conducting the two entrances.

IIT Kanpur has been assigned the task of providing technical support to NTA and it is being said that the exam pattern and syllabus will remain same for the upcoming exam which will be held in the online mode. However, until now, such entrances were conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education in online as well as offline modes. In case, official announcements for the same are made, medical aspirants need to prepare for the online mode as well.

Taking a valuable measure that would be beneficial to the entire student community, The Human Resource Development Ministry’s Union Minister of State, informed in the Lok Sabha that the upcoming Medical and Engineering entrance examinations will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which was formerly conducted by CBSE. He further added that, all national examinations conducted will be online and conducted twice a year, unlike earlier where the examinations were held in the months of April or May.

How this initiative by HRD Ministry will benefit students

A large number of students, every year, attend these two examinations in the hope to get through the top medical and engineering colleges of India. Still most of them are not able to make through it, as one of the major reasons being the clash of dates. Yes! April and May is time when all the boards conduct their final examination. And many a times it happens that the entrance examination and the board examination fall on a same date, creating a confusion and chaos among the students.

But this initiative will eliminate this problem forever, as there will be two entrance examinations conducted, so that students can give their best and get through best colleges in their own respective fields.

Major Advantage of conducting exams twice a year

Already true to almost everyone’s knowledge, every year a large group of students take a drop, to give a try in the upcoming entrance, and fulfil that desire, which they could not achieve on the present stage. This “twice a year” initiative will help the entire student community who, unwillingly choose to drop a year and prepare further in a better way for the same. It will ultimately save the year they planned to drop. And also,

Relief to CBSE

Both the examinations for the medical and engineering entrances were conducted by Central Board of Secondary Examinations. But this year onwards, NTA will be overtaking CBSE, and it will be responsible for conducting all the entrance examinations, it will lessen the burden over CBSE, giving it a relief.

They had conveyed to the HRD Ministry about the massive burden due to these. As reported by Times Of India (TOI), around 50 lakh students appear for seven different entrance examinations including GATE and CMAT, which are held by CBSE, AICTE, IIMs and IITs.

National Testing Agency (NTA)

This is an entirely independent body that is responsible for conducting all the entrance examinations for higher educations, On the lines of education in United States.

The main motive behind the formation of NTA was to set up an entirely independent body that will only look after the proper and fair means to conduct the medical and engineering entrance examinations. Also the foundation of the same was confirmed in the Union budget 2018 by Arun Jaitley.

As all the test will be online now, the students will be given proper mock test to attend those online exams. This is a great opportunity or it could be said as a second chance to those students who were not able to attend the exam due to the board examination, and also for those who scored less marks. Many of them will not have to waste an additional year.

This has ultimately reduced the load over CBSE. Now they can look forward in the improvisation of the educational content, questions banks, study materials etc. As mentioned by the authorities, like for the exams that were held in April, the forms were available by the month of December, but now as the exam itself is in that months, the forms will be available by September.

Presently the NTA will look after conducting

  1. JEE Main
  2. NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test)
  3. NET (National Eligibility Test)
  4. CTET (Central Teachers Eligibility Test)
  5. JNV (Jawahar Navodyay Vidhyalay)

NTA’s Future commitment

  1. JEE Advanced
  2. CAT (Common Admission Test)
  3. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Testing in Engineering)
