Hockey India League 2016 commenced with a glittering ceremony at Kalinga Stadium

hilodBhubaneswar: The premier hockey league in the world – the Coal India Hockey India League 2016 started off with a dazzling opening ceremony at the illustrious Kalinga Stadium. The Honorable Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the event and the league started with a high intensity clash between home team Kalinga Lancers and opponent Uttar Pradesh Wizards, among the hockey-crazy fans of Odisha. The UP Wizards stunned the Kalinga Lancers at the last moment of the match while scoring 2 goals in the last 2 minute of the match.
The opening ceremony kick started with a spectacular performance by Be-Bop aerobatic dancers. The CEO of HIL, Ms. Elena Norman delivered the welcome address while the chief guest of the event, Honorable Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik along with Shri Debi Prasad Mishra, Hon’ble Minister, Industries & School and Mass Education, Odisha, Mr Sithirta Bhattacharya, Chairman Coal India Ltd and Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, Chairman, Coal India Hockey India League unveiled the HIL 2016 trophy.
Led by the very experienced German skipper, Moritz Fuerste, the Kalinga Lancers are in a strong shape with a perfect team of settled as well as young talents. Studded with celebrated players such as Adam Dixon and Glenn Turner along with India’s top players like Dharamvir Singh, S K Uthappa, Gurjinder Singh, the team seems the top contender for the title and aims to be the victor of as many games as they can.
The list of other team members include Stanli Victor Minz, Malak Singh, Devindar Sunil Walmiki, Quirijn Caspers, Dipsan Tirkey, Pardeep Mor, Amit Rohidas, Anand Lakra, Mathew Willis, Mathew Dawson, Aran Zalewski, Abhinav Kumar Pandey (Goal Keeper), Andrew Charter (Goal Keeper) and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay.
Kalinga Lancers, the Bhubaneswar based hockey team is promoted by Odisha Sports Development and Promotion Company (OSDPC), a joint effort by Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development

Corporation (IDCO) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL). Former Australian Mark Hager is the head coach while former Indian captain Dilip Tirkey is the chief mentor and advisor of the team. Former Indian goalkeeper Dr A.B. Subbaiah will accompany the team as team manager and Australian David John is the trainer and exercise physiologist of the team. The Kalinga Lancers team will play 5 matches here at Kalinga Stadium from 18 January to 8 February 2016.

Kalinga Lancers Glenn Turner receives the Man of the Match title , The Goal of The Match goes to Jolie Wouter from UP wizards, ‘Hero Emerging Player of the Match is received by Dipsan Tirky from Kalinga Lancers and the last title the most Entertaining Player of the match goes to Lalit Upadhyay from Kalinga Lancers.
