Governor of Jharkhand inaugurates Van Srijan initiative at Tata Power’s Maithon power plant

tatapower-van-srijanMaithon: Maithon Power, a 74:26 joint venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation, has been relentlessly contributing towards the conservation of environment. In line with its commitment to sustainable growth and environment protection, Maithon Power(MPL) today commenced ‘Van Srijan’– an initiative supporting the tree plantation drive of the Government of Jharkhand namely ‘Ped Lagao, Parywaran Bachao’ and ‘Van Mahotsav’. The event was inaugurated by Droupadi Murmu, Governor of Jharkhand, at the MPL plant in Maithon.

The objective of the initiativeis to contribute to the well-being of the environment and sensitise people about the importance of tree plantation, environmental conservation and plant 21,000 trees under this initiative inaugurated by the Governor of Jharkhand. More than 1,100 trees were planted on the inaugural day. At the Van Srijan programme, MPL encouraged close to 400 people which included public representatives, officers of district administration, employees, contractual workers, vendors and contractors to take an oath to protect the environment by planting trees. The event also highlighted the need for each stakeholder to propagate and further the cause of environment conservation and sustainability.

Speaking on the initiative, K Chandrashekhar, CEO and ED, MPL, said, “Maithon Power and Tata Power’s philosophy is built on a strong sustainability agenda. Through this initiative we intend to encourage tree plantation and preservation of nature to maintain ecological balance by our communities in our areas of operations. We are honoured that the Van Mahostav was inaugurated by the honourable Governor of Jharkhand Droupadi Murmu. We will continue to undertake such initiatives that will contribute to make our society greener and healthier”.
