GATE 2019 to Be Conducted by IIT Madras: Know the Expected Changes

The latest news that the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) will be conducted by IIT Madras has been in the air. GATE is one of the most popular exams which is given after engineering. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will be conducting GATE 2019 for those who are interested in pursuing master’s and direct doctoral programmes in the field of Engineering, technology, architecture and other branches. The admissions are given in various institutes like Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and IITs.  It is a computer-based online test. The GATE exam is conducted at national level and more than 9 lacs candidates appear for the exam every year.

Expected Changes in GATE 2019

In the recent time, certain changes have been made in the GATE exam that includes the number of subjects for GATE. Earlier, i.e. before 2019, the GATE exam had 23 subject papers but from 2019 GATE will be held in 24 subjects. There has been an addition of a new subject called Statistics (ST). Out of 24 different subjects in GATE 2019, a candidate is allowed to appear in any one of the subjects in one session. The subject will be of the choice of a candidate in which he/she is interested.

Important Dates to Remember:

Online application forms are available from September 1, 2018

Last date for submission of online application: September 21, 2018

Last date for requesting a change of examination city: November 16, 2018

Availability of Admit Cards: January 4, 2019

GATE will be conducted on 02, 03, 09, and 10 February 2019. The exam will be conducted in 2 shifts- the first half is from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and the second half is from 14:00 pm – 17:00 pm. The schedule for each day is different along with the different subject codes.

GATE score will be valid for 3 years and can be used by any public sector undertakings (PSUs) such as ONGC, BHEL, GAIL, HAL, IOCL etc. for their recruitments.  The registrations for the same will begin from 1st September through Gate Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).  The candidate will be eligible to appear for one paper only in any one session.

Over the last few years, GATE score has gained the importance and now the criteria for recruitment is used in various Government Organizations such as Cabinet Secretariat, National/State Public Sector Undertakings in our country.

During the last two years, Gate 2018 was conducted by IIT Guwahati and GATE 2017 was conducted by IIT Madras. IIT Madras had conducted GATE in the year 2011, and this year again IIT Madras got another chance to conduct GATE exam.  The official notification for GATE is expected to be released in the month of August 2018. The application process for the same will begin from the first week of September 2018.

Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The GATE examination will be consisting 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks and the marks distribution will be followed by all the 24 papers. The exam will be conducted in a time span of 3 hours.

Each and every question in the GATE paper will have 2 types of questions including the Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). Some of the questions in the paper will carry 1 marks and some of the questions will be of 2 marks with a total of 65 questions of 100 marks.
