Bhubaneswar: Biju Yuva Janata Dal state president Sanjaya Das Burma on Saturday called upon the opposition parties to refrain from indulging in obstructive politics and play constructive roles to build Odisha.

Mr Das Burma, in a press statement, said the opposition parties were engaged in the blame game against the ruling BJD, thereby halting the progress of the state.

“When the BJD headed by chief minister Naveen Patnaik has been tirelessly working for over 12 years to remove poverty and economic backwardness by transparent and good governance, the Congress and other political parties are criticizing the government. They should desist from their shocking act,” the BYJD president observed.

Taking a dig at the BJP, Mr Das Burma said the recent “pornography” incident in Karnataka Assembly in which three ministers were dismissed, - reflected the distorted mindset of the BJP leaders.

“Despite being exposed, the BJP ministers in Karnataka did not step down from their positions spontaneously. They resigned only after their high command intervened. On the other hand, the BJD chief has always taken steps against his ministers whenever he has received any allegations against them,” stated the BJD leader.

Stating that chief minister Mr Patnaik never compromised with ethics and principle, Mr Das Burma said there was no case of corruption against the CM in his 12 years of rule.

Raising the issue of Anjana Mishra molestation case during the J.B. Patnaik period, the BYJD president said the then CM protected the ex-advocate general who was involved in the crime.

The press statement also noted a number of scams and scandals that took place during the Congress period at the Centre.

“Bofors scandal, alleged bribing of MPs by the Narasingha Rao government and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister N.D. Tiwari’s sexual escapade are just a few of several such examples of the Congress government’s character,” Mr Burma said.
