Odia cinema is steadily transcending regional and national borders. Song sequences are being shot abroad amidst picturesque locations across Singapore and Bangkok. Actors and technical crew are imported from Bollywood and South. Around 32 feature films were released in 2011. All this would perhaps have painted a pretty picture of the odia cinematic landscape, but hardly 10 per cent of the films released could shake the audience and fill the box-office coffers. One can barely finish counting the hits on the fingers of one hand.

2011 is mixed year for the odia film industry, though it proved that love continues to work. this year begin with Susant Mani directed MOSTWANTED , starring Anuvab, Megha Ghosh, Meenaketan and Puspa Panda Produced by Oscar Movies., the film met with negative notes. While Ashok Pati directed LOAFER did tremendous business at Box office, for the first time Babushaan and Arachita duo became an extra supplement for young cine viewer. On the other hand MANAMORA PRAJAPATI and CHHATIRE LEKCHI NAA fail to impress the young mass, to which the production house made targeted audience more disappointment come in the form of MOTE BAHU KARI NEIJA which was Choudhary Bikas Das second credit as a director.

Though entire film was canned at Bangkok the story line and narration lack an element of drama. The deliberate sprinkling of odia tradition in the story does not make audience nostalgic. This simply because the attempt lacks sincerity and the theme is not really rooted in odia. The one redeeming feature in the movie is MihirDas, who as elder brother provides lot of life to his role. This could be attributed to the period between March and May, when the cricket season was in full swing with IPL and Cricket world cup and theatres did not see any major release.

The mainly the time when small budget film cash in on the lean period and about five low budget film were released. The list comprise TU MO GIRL FRIEND,A MANA KHOJEA MAN TIEA,HERO-PREMKATHA,PREM WEDS PRIYA,ANJALI,FAMILY NO-ONE ,of this only Hero-Premkatha Directed by Dilip Panda and comprise the cast Arindam,Priya,Mihir Das did above average business.U.K Jha ,Manger Rajshree Production said though cricket mania affected the release of films but over all films have fared better than last year.
Rajo is an important festivals of Odisha to encash the festive mood three films were released during this period,1-4-3 I Love You, Baishi Pahache Khelib Meena and Kiea Se Dakuchi Keunthi Mote ,of this two film based on love story, while Baisha Pa…. was based on widely read AchutaNanda Malika future prediction, all the three films doing well in the box office. In July 29, 2011 another love story based film Chori-Chori hit the theatre and In August ,7,Chocolate. It followed with Mu Premi Mu Pagal and Kemiti A Bandhan in August,12,2011.Now most of the Producer and director decided to encash the box office success through love story, which is proved wrong, when we analyze the box office report of the released film. Some relatively young filmmakers with promising promos on television channels raised a lot of expectations. Among these were,Cuttack the Silver City,Kichi Khata Kichi Mitha , Dosti and Naryan Ghadei directorial debut Mane Rahib A Premkahani’s Most of these films fell by the wayside because they lacked the X-factor that pulls the audience in, while some were released without any marketing or promos. Some films should never have been made at all and were pulled out of the theatre almost a week within their release. These are Tora Mora Katha Heba Chup chap,Mana Mora Prajapati During Durga Puja Balunga Toka, Criminal and Chandani I Miss You hit the theatre out of which Balunga toka is running to full houses at many places. . Not so surprisingly, movies from the elitist, nationallyrecognised camp of significant filmmakers badly bit the box-office dust; Prasant Nanda directed Jianta Bhuta is a burning example. Some films were pulled out of the theatres almost a week within their release. These are Kichhi Katha Kichhi Mitha, Mane Rahib Ea Prem Kahani,Aaain Kanun
In 2011 as a director Ashok Pati(Loafer ,1-4-3 I Love You and Dosti) and Dilip Panda ( Hero-Premkatha and Criminal)manages to present a fare that is decided healthier entertainment than the other release, while South based choreographer-cum director SudhakarBasant proved himself as hit director for Kia Se Dakuchi KounthiMote and Balungatoka, Guddly Rath became the first choice of the producer and director as he had scored scored music for six film out of 32 films released. Avijit Mazumdar also composed some hit song in this year, As a hero Anuvab and Arindam keep their credibility, while as a leading actress Varsha and Arachita stolen the heart of odia cine love,while Riya and Priya proved them self as a promosing actress for the future.
