MORE than half of men are prepared to marry a woman for money even if she is old, ugly or dull.

Experts say male gold diggers are a result of the economic crisis and high-earning career women.

But woman are becoming more careful with 29% saying they would consider asking potential husbands to sign a prenuptial agreement.

A total of 14% of females said the contracts – which define how assets are split in divorce – were “essential”, but 24% thought they were unromantic.

Psychologist Beverley Stone said: “Men are now marrying with their heads rather than their hearts.

“There has been a sharp change in roles and expectations. Men may look for a wealthy partner who can offer financial insurance.”

Insurer MORE TH>N, which carried out the poll, said: “Protecting your finances prior to getting married is essential.”
