Bhubaneswar-based XIMB hosts Para Athlos

Bhubaneswar: Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) in association with Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Metro, organised ‘Para Athlos’, a sports meet for differently abled children at the XIMB grounds on the evening of 26th January 2012, commemorating the 63rd Republic Day of India.

Organised by the Social Responsibility Cell of XIMB, Para Athlos witnessed participation from more than 80 students of both senior and junior age groups from various schools in and around Bhubaneswar such as Shri Harsha Memorial School for the Deaf and School for Deaf and Dumb, Palaspalli. Captain S.S. Mohanty, President, Rotary Club, Rotarian Gopinath Sarangi and IPP Prof. Gopal Krishna Nayak gave away the prizes and certificates to the winners.

This unique event succeeded in bringing out the innate talents of the specially-abled, as they participated in activities such as the 100 m and 50 m relay races, sack race, toffee race, balloon race, throw ball and volley ball with exploding enthusiasm and commendable teamwork, even as the audience passionately cheered and motivated them.

Inspired by the Jesuit spirit of ‘Magis’, XIMB aims to provide quality management education and develop managers with a humane perspective. The needs of the society are given paramount importance, and projects that are focussed on the upliftment of the society at large are included in the course curriculum, thus sensitising the students to the weaker sections, and inculcating a deep sense of social and ethical responsibility in them.

XIMB also hosted Athlos ’12, the Inter-College Sports Fest from the 20th to the 22nd Of January. Athlos ’12, which was sponsored by Tata Steel and NALCO, witnessed participation from top B-Schools like XLRI, Jamshedpur, IMI, Delhi and IMT, Nagpur. The various events held over the three days included Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn tennis, Cricket and Football for Men and Basketball, Throwball, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Lawn tennis for Women. IMT, Nagpur was adjudged the overall winner with 500 points while XIMB came in second with 440 points.
