New Delhijayshree: The 17th edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav organised a lecture demonstration on Theatre Music “Rang Sangeet” by Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee B. Jayashree on 11th February, 2015 in Bahumukh Auditorium, NSD Campus. She, along with her troupe, mesmerized the audience with her beautiful voice. Her songs were basically of company music theatre that has been sung over the years.

B. jayashree, with a silver bell in her throat, initiated the demonstration with Ganesh stuti which in itself was soulful. Her guru whom she calls Putu-Putu also graced the event. She sang a few songs from her grandfather’s music company that is, Gubbi Veeranna Nataka Company. She talked about the journey of Company music – how it travelled to Maharashtra, Kolkata and had a blend of various other languages. An eclectic mix of a few numbers from eminent Kannada composer P.Kalinga Rao’s Dashavataar were also sung by her. She concluded by singing her own company, Spandana Theatre’s production. She was felicitated by the famous screenplay writer Atul Tiwari.

Prof. Waman Kendre, Director, National School of Drama was delighted to have her as a part of this year’s festival, said, “B Jayashree is a graduate from NSD and is a very important theatre practitioner of this country. There might be many actors and actresses in the theatre fraternity but she is the Kohinoor. Nobody can sing so beautifully at a high pitch the way she does. We are proud to have her here”
