Adivasi Club Lifted 10th Kate Purty Inter-village Football Tournament 2016 Cup Organised by Tata Steel’s Sukinda Chromite Mine

footballltataSukinda: In the final match played at Central Playground in Sukinda Chromite Mine (SCM) of Tata Steel in Jajpur district, Adivasi Club of Kate Purty Nagar lifted 10th Kate Purty Invitational Inter-village football tournament-2016, organised by Tata Steel by defeating Nehru Club of Bhalutangara from Dhenkanal district by 2-1 goal.

Ramdas Murmu of Nehru club scored the first goal but Bisan Murmu and Nares Tudu scored successive goals to give their team 2-1 lead. Shri R R Satpathy, General Manager, Operations, Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division, Tata Steel, Shri Rajesh Patel, Chief, Mining, Shri Harihar Barik, General Secretary and Shri K C Behera, President, SCM Workers’ Union gave away trophies and cash award to the wining and runner-up team. The wining team received Rs 20,000 and the runners-up team got Rs 15,000 cash award.

Ghanasyam Kerai of Adivasi Club was best goal keeper of the series while Sib Narayan Bahadur of the same club was declared as man of the series and Biju Marandi of Nehru Club became the man of the series.

Starting December 15, 2016 this 15 days tournament witnessed brilliant performances by players of 32 teams, vying for the title. Teams from Ransol, Chingudipal, Kankarpal, Kaliapani panchayat of Sukinda block of Jajpur district and Raibol panchayat of Kankarahat block of Dhenkanal district took part in the 10th edition of this tournament.

Named after Shri Kate Purty, the man who discovered chromite in Sukinda valley in 1949, the tournament has been organised for 9 years in a row. While reminding people about Shri Purty’s contribution to the economy of the region, the tournament aims at giving a platform to local football talent to showcase their skills and promote sports in the region.
